Eagle Mountain City Timeline


1994: John Walden, founder of the town, buys 8,000 acres of Cedar Valley land, destined to become Eagle Mountain.

1996: On Dec. 3, Eagle Mountain is incorporated with a population of 250.

1997: First city elections held in November.

1998: In May, the city's fire station opens in the town center. In June the first Pony Express Days celebrations are held.

1999: The library opens with 1,200 books in 12-by-12 foot room at the fire station. First business venture opens in City Center.

2000: The U.S. Census reports Eagle Mountain's population has reached 2,157 and 598 housing units.

2001: The town of Eagle Mountain is officially reclassified as a city.

2002: The city becomes the third-largest in Utah based on land area and its population reaches 6,000. In August the Pony Express Elementary School opens, followed by the Ranches Golf Course in October.

2004: Population reaches 8,000 and in August the Eagle Valley Elementary and Ranches Academy both open.

2005: Population reaches 10,343 and Eagle Mountain resident Mark Madsen is elected state senator. In May the new city hall opens, including a large, new library, along with the city's Silverlake Amphitheater, home of Pony Express Days celebrations and concert series.

2006: Population reaches 14,000. In August the city's first traffic light is installed on State Road 73. In October the first gas station opens. The city reaches a mile mark of issuing over 1,000 building permits, and the city ranks fourth in the state for the number of building permits issued.

2007: Census numbers are updated to accurately reflect a population of 23,000+
